Meet the Artist
Nicole Scanlon

From the Gallery:

Nicole Scanlon's work immediately caught our attention for its bold color, playful energy, and distinctive point of view. Her paintings are vibrant and expressive, combining repeated shapes, unexpected color combinations, and strong graphic elements to create pieces that feel contemporary and full of personality.

There is a wonderful sense of movement and experimentation in Nicole's work. Some pieces build rhythm through grids and repetition, while others use organic forms and layers of color that invite you to keep looking and discovering something new.

What we especially love about Nicole's work is that it doesn't take itself too seriously. It's sophisticated, but it's also fun. Her paintings bring color, character, and a little unexpected joy into a space, which fits beautifully with what we want The Collected Space Gallery to be about.

We're excited to have Nicole's work as part of our collection and to introduce our visitors to an artist whose work feels unmistakably her own.

Nicole Scanlon is a multidisciplinary artist, graphic designer, and art director based in Rochester, New York. Her creative practice is rooted in a deep appreciation for visual storytelling, material exploration, and the expressive possibilities of color, texture, and form.

A graduate of the State University of New York at Oswego, Nicole earned her BFA in Graphic Design with a minor in Fine Art. Her professional career has bridged the worlds of design and fine art, allowing her to approach each creative endeavor with both a refined visual sensibility and an instinctive love of making.

Her work explores the space between structure and spontaneity—where thoughtful composition meets experimentation and unexpected details become part of the story. Whether working on canvas, paper, pottery, or a commissioned piece, Nicole is drawn to the tactile and imperfect qualities that give artwork its character.

The Work

Nicole works primarily in mixed media, embracing a variety of surfaces and materials to create pieces that feel layered, tactile, and distinctly personal.

Her process is intuitive and exploratory. She enjoys building depth through texture, color, pattern, and unexpected elements, allowing each piece to evolve organically. There is a balance between intention and discovery—a willingness to follow an idea wherever it leads.

Commissioned work holds a particularly meaningful place in Nicole’s practice. She enjoys collaborating with clients to transform personal stories, meaningful places, cherished memories, and individual ideas into original works of art.

For Nicole, the most rewarding part of creating a commissioned piece is not simply the finished artwork, but the connection it creates between the work and the person who inspired it.

At its heart, Nicole’s work is about making something meaningful from an idea—something with texture, personality, and a story of its own.

Fine art. Mixed media. Thoughtful design.

A little bit of beautiful unpredictability.
